As principal of investments, Charmaine sources and executes investments across several initiatives for Omidyar Network Africa, including Consumer Internet and Mobile, Education, and Financial Inclusion. Her role builds on her extensive experience in the finance and investing fields. She is based in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Prior to joining Omidyar Network, Charmaine served as an associate principal at Absa capital private equity (ACPE) in Johannesburg, South Africa. She joined the investment team of ACPE in 2008, managing a large portfolio of private equity investments across a variety of sectors. Between 2006 and 2008, Charmaine was part of Ernst & Young’s private equity transaction advisory team in London, working with blue-chip international private equity houses. Previously, she was a senior dealmaker at Standard Bank, Leveraged Finance and a senior financial analyst for the Council for Medical Schemes. Charmaine began her career in the audit and advisory services division of PricewaterhouseCoopers South Africa where she worked on statutory audits in different sectors
