The Louis Dreyfus Foundation helps to alleviate poverty and hunger by bringing sustainable solutions to small holder farmers. The Foundation promotes projects in the areas of sustainable agriculture, food security and self-sufficiency, particularly through education and direct support to farmers, with a specific focus on developing countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
As a contributor to poverty alleviation through support of a sector that is critical to Africa’s economy, The Anzisha Prize recognizes and honors the role that Louis Dreyfus Foundation plays in this space.
To advance this goal, Louis Dreyfus Foundation have a partnership with the African Leadership Academy (ALA) as a sponsor for the Anzisha Prize for Agriculture. In 2015, Louis Dreyfus Foundation made a $10,000 grant for the 2015 Anzisha Prize for Agriculture. The Anzisha Prize was awarded in November 2015 at an Awards Gala in Johannesburg South Africa. The 2015 winner for the grant was Chantal Butare, 21, who runs a dairy project in Rwanda which creates market access for many community members from whom she collects milk.
The recipient of the Anzisha Prize for Agriculture has developed a demonstrably effective project in agriculture, contributing to affordable and sustainable food security measures that are applicable to communities in Africa. With these grants to young African entrepreneurs, Louis Dreyfus Foundation and African Leadership Academy hope to learn about innovative, newly born and sustainable projects, as well as ideas that are addressing food insecurity across the continent.
